Hanoi Design Centre was founded thanks to the collaboration between Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association and Lund University School of Industrial Design, supported by the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam. Among the missions of HDC was promoting sustainability and design in local handicraft. I joined HDC during its early days and had a chance to work with various designers, local craft producers of all techniques and materials as well as partner organizations in the design development field to create collections that merge design, sustainability, locality and culture. Every year, HDC welcomes design consultants from different countries in Europe to collaborate with local craftsmen. The resulting collections carry influences of modern design while celebrating the craft heritage of Vietnam.
Because East meets West, that’s where things get exciting.
