In my recent trip to the South of France, I got to know Claire, a bubbly wanderlust pattern designer. On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we arrived in her sun-filled apartment in Aix en Provence for a coffee. I had a chance to dwell into her world, the world of a graphic designer and color-water painter turned pattern designer. Claire pointed to the coffee cup, then the tray that’s holding the coffee, then the pillows on the bench that we were sitting on, and told us that she designed all of them. I couldn’t help feeling like a little Alice in the wonderland of pleasant colors, soft yet spirited brushstrokes and well-calculated repetition. I love how Claire took inspiration from everything – the necklaces in her (and her friends’) jewelry box, the trees in her little garden, her cat – and turned them into beautiful patterns. Her style is characterized by soft, thin watercolor brushes, although her work is much more diverse than that. In this post, I want to share some works from Claire that I love. More good stuff in Claire’s portfolio.
